A New Vintage Album
by Chaco Mohler
Lake Tahoe is a new volume of historic images authored by University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) photography professor Peter Goin. Part of Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" series, the book is both useful and entertaining—a history and a visual delight. It contains a number of rarely- or neverbefore- published images, selected from the archives of UNR and the historical societies of Nevada, North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe.
Goin is also author/photographer of Tracing the Line: A Photographic Survey of the Mexican-American Border, Nuclear Landscapes and Stopping Time: A Rephotographic Survey of Lake Tahoe. In this new book, he serves as a photo-historian, providing background and commentary on each image and penning a short history of Tahoe as his introduction. The medium-sized, soft-cover book sells for $19.99 and is available at many Tahoe area gifts shops, museums and stores.
