Tahoe-opoly

"Fork over $200—you just landed on my South Lake Tahoe Fire Department with two houses on it!" That and similar commands will be heard in early fall when Tahoe-opoly hits store shelves. But this isn't a Parker Brothers' invention—it's the creation of South Tahoe High School students.

Instead of Utilities and Railroads, the 29 Travel and Tourism Marketing students are getting local businesses to fill game spots. The students have been working on the game since November, as part of their Marketing class taught by Laurel Brock. Pride Distributors will manufacture the board, which will retail for $25. Pride has an arrangement with Parker Brothers to work with nonprofits, like schools, to create the game as a fundraising tool.

The Tahoe-opoly board was still taking shape at presstime, but along with the city's fire department and police department, various businesses have purchased squares or placement on game cards. The students hope to raise $25,000 for a cruise to the Mexican Riviera; planning the trip is another class lesson.
