Big Water Grille: Sense of Delight

Nestled high on a mountainside above Incline Village, the Big Water Grille's spectacular view and comfortable surroundings align with a menu that combines haute fare with traditional goodness.

The new executive chef of this locals' favorite, Jay Veregge, brings a diversified approach and style he calls "market basket cuisine" to the Big Water's tables. Following an apprenticeship with French chef Pierre Gagnier, Veregge went on to infl uence several Bay Area kitchens with his vision and taste. His recent successes in the fi ne-dining arena have included Wolf House in Sonoma and Tarot in Berkeley.

The Big Water offers its diversified clientele "a little of something for everyone," says managing partner John Cheney. Thankfully, Veregge has kept several favorites, like the delicious fried chicken entrée, but his approach has brought some distinctive changes, such as the signature dish Colorado elk chop. In addition, the Big Water chefs are focusing on providing the best of Tahoe's seasonal, local and regional ingredients. The winter menu includes an apple salad, rabbit entrée and oxtail appetizer that all rely on local and regional ingredients for their fl avorful effects.

Completing the meal's sensory overload is an all-inclusive wine menu with varietals and offerings from California, Oregon, France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and other regions of the world. Each wine choice is tastefully selected, encompassing a blend of Veregge's gourmet fl avors and Cheney's sommelier skills.

The restaurant offers a number of dining choices: Watch the sunset in the well-appointed bar, have a martini at the lounge or enjoy a 5-course dining experience at a table with one of Tahoe's best views. New this winter is a private, intimate dining room capable of seating up to 20.

Big Water Grille gives an experience of life's finer, more delicious offerings—a feast to fill the senses.
